The station naturally used an Owl as their symbol and advertisement. There was a large owl mounted in Florence. It faced south toward the Tennessee River. When you crossed the O'Neal bridge from Colbert County into Lauderdale County, the first thing you saw was the Owl. Its eyes were lights. One was red and the other was green. If the green light was on, then all was well in the Shoals area. If the red light was on, then there had been a tragedy, perhaps a fatal car accident.
I didn't get to see the Owl much, since going to Florence was equivalent to a European Vacation for us, but I did see it on TV. Every day we were told what color the Owl's eye was. I remember feeling a sense of peace when the Owl's eye was green. I also remember feeling uneasy when they told us that the Owl's eye was red.
When it comes to our soul's condition in the sight of God, what color is the Owl's eye? We will hear one of two judgments on that last day according to Matthew 25:21 & 41 "enter thou into the joy of thy lord." or "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" It is a peaceful thing to know your Owl's eye is green!
