It was our "Wednesday Night Singing" service. We spent one service a month and sang the entire hour. All of our men and young boys were encouraged to lead a song or two. Sometimes we would ask for requests. I can't remember what song was requested, but I do remember that no one really knew it. I had heard it before, so I made a valiant attempt to lead it. We struggled through the first verse. After we sang the last verse, Mrs. Green said in her matter of fact way, "That's a pretty song if it was sung right!"
Her honesty was brutal, but it was true! She was like the apostle Paul. He asked in Galatians 4:16 "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" If we are going to get better, we need folks to tell us the truth. Just as importantly, we need to listen to the truth!
