Billy attended Chapel Hill Church of Christ for many years. He lived in very modest conditions. This includes a bus, turned camper, turned home! His favorite meal was beans. He could make them himself. Jim wanted to give Billy a treat one day. He brought him a beautiful steak and told him how to cook it. Billy plopped it in a pot and boiled it with his beans. Billy viewed life through simple eyes, but he was far from simple.
Those who knew Billy saw him walk to church in the heat, rain, sleet, and snow. He walked from Hawk Pride Mountain to Tuscumbia, catching an occasional ride from sympathetic drivers, to do what he could. Billy could mow grass, so he did! When others would sit and complain about what they couldn't do, Billy got up and did what he could do. With meager means, he always had an ample supply of chewing gum which he distributed to folks at church. Whether you were young or old you were welcome to "Billy Gum". Billy was more faithful with all his limitations than most folks are who have been blessed with much talent and resources.
Regina took it upon herself to help Billy. She moved him from his bus to a very nice and comfortable subsidized apartment complex. She saw to it that he had good meals, proper clothing, and medical care. He was 79 when he passed away. He was at peace with himself and with God. This is how the Bible defines and "angel": Hebrews 1:14 "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" There is little doubt that Billy is an "heir off salvation". It is obvious that Regina was a "minister" for him. So, I guess, it would be appropriate to say she behaved as an "angel" for Billy. Whose "angel" will you be today?
