Mrs. Green was a long time member at Chapel Hill Church of Christ. Her husband served as an elder there for several years. She lived two houses down from the church building. Mrs. Green was always courteous, always proper, and always truthful!
It was our "Wednesday Night Singing" service. We spent one service a month and sang the entire hour. All of our men and young boys were encouraged to lead a song or two. Sometimes we would ask for requests. I can't remember what song was requested, but I do remember that no one really knew it. I had heard it before, so I made a valiant attempt to lead it. We struggled through the first verse. After we sang the last verse, Mrs. Green said in her matter of fact way, "That's a pretty song if it was sung right!"
Her honesty was brutal, but it was true! She was like the apostle Paul. He asked in Galatians 4:16 "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" If we are going to get better, we need folks to tell us the truth. Just as importantly, we need to listen to the truth!
