Edna has been a member of Chapel Hill Church of Christ for many years. She recently retired from a distinguished career in the insurance business. Edna can communicate with the CEO of a major corporation in one moment and offer consolation to someone with the most modest means the next. She carries her tall slender frame, accented by her silver hair, with graceful confidence. Sitting or standing, you will never see her "slouch". She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Her graceful spirit is only surpassed by her rich wisdom.
While teaching the adult class at Chapel Hill in the auditorium, I illustrated a point with a story from my past. I don't recall the text or the point of the lesson, but I vividly recall telling the story. It was about a time (several years before) that Debra had done something that hurt my feelings. She had made me angry. In fact, as I told the story my fury began to return. Edna raised her hand. I always loved it when Edna raised her hand. She could add, in just two or three words, a point that would galvanize our understanding of the lesson. Most of the time it would be so profound I would write it down so as never to forget it! I grabbed my pen as Edna began to speak. "Get over it!" she advised. I wrote that down!!!
Paul could have wallowed in the regrets of his past. He had persecuted Christians, even helping with the murder of Stephen, the first Christian martyr! Paul chose to "Get over it!" Here is how he put it; Philippians 3:13-14 " ... but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, ...". What are you going to "Get Over" today?
