He was one of the kindest people that worked for Allen's Air Conditioning, Inc. Terry worked hard every day. He learned the trade. He let nothing impede him, even his speech impediment. Whenever he came to a word with an "F" or "V", he would pronounce the "TH" sound instead. A sentence like, "I put a Chevy 454 engine in my Ford Fairlane." would come out, "I put a Chethy thor thithty thor engine in my Thord Thairlane." Terry never made a big deal of this impediment, nor did we. We heard him and understood him, so did our customers.
Winston also worked at Allen's Air Conditioning, Inc. for several years. He could work with anyone ... if they would work! There was a no-nonsense approach to getting the job done with Winston. One of the Suppliers announced that they would be having a special lunch for all the local air conditioning workers. They planned to give away hamburgers, chips, cold drinks, etc. It was time for lunch. Winston agreed to leave the job site and go get a hamburger. Terry told him, "I want to go get me those three hamburgers!" Winston replied, "Man, I don't believe I can eat THREE!" Terry smiled and said, "My 'three' and 'three' sound the same." Winston was a little embarrassed when he realized that Terry had said "FREE Hamburgers"!
It is important to hear, but we must also understand! Jesus asked the question in Mark 8:21 "And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?" A few verses earlier, in verse 18, he said, "... and having ears, hear ye not? ...". How many times have we heard something, but didn't understand? What have we been "hearing" from God's Bible, but not understanding? Jesus is talking. Are we REALLY listening?
