I was trying to look over Daddy's shoulder when he grabbed the pull cord to start the tiller. I just wanted to see how to start the thing. With a quick jerk he yanked the pull cord. His elbow felt something soft and wet. My mouth felt something hard and course! The impact caused me to fall hard to the ground. Daddy was obviously concerned. He tenderly picked me up, brushed me off, and asked how I was. I wiped the blood off my mouth and said I was alright. He asked me again if I was positive I was ok. I assured him that I was fine. Then he swatted my backside several times and told me never to stand behind him when he was starting the tiller!
I had already received the painful penalty for my mistake. I wondered why he punished me further. Daddy had his reasons. So did God when He often did the same thing. For example, in 2 Samuel 11 & 12 David's heart had already suffered for the sins he had committed with Bathsheba, but God still took the baby. Sometimes our mistakes cause us great pain, but we still must suffer the consequences.
