David Allen of Allen's Air Conditioning, Inc. told me he was thinking about getting one of those new tools for a business - a computer. He wondered if I knew anything about them. Shop Rite grocery had just gotten one to maintain their inventory a little while before I moved to the convenience store. I had used it some, but not enough to say I knew anything about computers. I was about to learn.
We purchased a computer. It was capable of 40 kilobytes of data storage. A "byte" is one character. I used about 20 bytes in that last sentence! A "kilobyte" is about 1,000 characters! David Allen is a meticulous record keeper. He had an index card for every customer he installed an air conditioning system for since he began his business in the early 1980's. The card contained their name, address, phone number, and the Model & Serial numbers of their units. My task was to enter that data into the new computer. It took several Saturday mornings! We filled up 40 kilobytes (40,000 bytes or characters) pretty quickly. We graduated to 80 kilobytes. We were convinced that we would never need any more data storage than that ... we were wrong! It wasn't long before we needed "megabytes" (1million bytes). Then we needed "gigabytes" (1 billion bytes)! There are systems out there using "terabytes" (1 trillion bytes) and "petabytes" (1 quadrillion bytes). There are also "exabytes" (1 quintillion bytes) and "zettabytes" (1 sextillion bytes). Then there are "yottabytes" (1 septillion bytes)!! It is a good thing we have these systems with all this storage, so we can keep up with our National Debt! It makes you wonder what else they are keeping up with!
The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:14 "For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." If man can store so much information, surely it is not hard to believe that God can do this!! He can, and He will.
