Before Kayla was born, having gone through so many changes at once, I thought I should do something to get ready for her arrival. Since I didn't know what to do, I did what I always do ... I worked some more! David Allen hired me to work from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This would give me time to eat a sandwich and get to Foodland grocery in Sheffield by 5:00 p.m. The store closed at 11:00 p.m., so I could work another 6 hours! Foodland was owned by Bob Love. He also owned Shop Rite grocery where I had worked for 9 years. I knew the manager, Charles "Bubba" Lambert, very well. He hired me on the spot.
Where was Debra? She was at home dealing with her pre-natal care by herself! Today, whenever she tells a story about those months leading up to Kayla's birth, I say, "I don't remember that." She reminds me, "Of course you don't, you weren't there!" She was right. My memories of those months are blurred between bagging the aftermath of her morning sickness and bagging groceries at Foodland at night! No wonder I subconsciously get sick when I go to the grocery store!
Looking back, I suppose I could have spent more time with Debra. However, I did what I thought I should do at the time. I did something! Too many times, when we don't know what to do, we sit down and quit. We do nothing! I think a better approach is to go do something! If we do nothing, it is certain that nothing will be done! We must face the "Lions" in our lives. We may not know exactly what to do. We may not do exactly the right thing in exactly the right way. But we must hit the road! Solomon put it this way in Proverbs 26:13 "The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets." Is there a "Lion" in your way? There's the door ... HIT IT!!
