I was the third child born into the Conley family. Rita was the fifth. Upon graduation from high school, she enrolled into college. She knew she wanted to be a teacher. She became a teacher! She has been teaching in the Lauderdale country school system for many years!
As her older brother, I always take advantage of every opportunity to "jab" at her. Make no mistake, she has gotten in plenty of "jabs" on me! One day we were visiting my family on Underwood Mountain. One of the other family members mentioned that Rita was dating someone. Realizing this was a "jab" moment, I quickly asked, "What's the deal? Is he blind?" Well, HE IS!!! I could have crawled under the rug! My foot was too deep in my mouth to even attempt to pull it out! Wade amazed me. He has accomplished more than most seeing people! Wade & Rita simply don't acknowledge the word "disability". It would imply that they don't have the ability to do what needs to be done. They were made for each other! Rita eventually married Wade. They even gave me the privilege of performing the ceremony. I wouldn't have blamed them if they didn't!
Couldn't we avoid a lot of problems if we simply watched what we said? Today, let's follow James' advice in
James 1:19 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:"
