As I mentioned in my blog titled, "Meet The Parents", Debra's father, Mr. Brooks, is a "Jack of all trades and a Master of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!" He planned and built his own house. He worked out of town for T.V.A. and came home on Friday evenings. Before going to bed on Friday night, he would lay out all the materials and tools he would need to accomplish a portion of the house. At daybreak on Saturday you could hear the sound of his hammer and saw. This would continue until sunset. Early Sunday morning he would finish a last minute detail then pack up his tools. Sunday after dinner, he would leave town ready to start his job at T.V.A. on Monday morning. When Friday came, he would repeat the process.
He laid the foundation, framed the house, put on the roof, installed the windows, ran the electrical and plumbing, installed and finished the sheet rock, ... one weekend at a time. He worked slowly, methodically, ... bit by bit, little by little! Now he's retired and has been living in his home for several years. He was well known at T.V.A. for accomplishing more in eight hours than most could accomplish in eight days! I asked him, "You move more slowly than most, yet you accomplish more than anyone. How do you do it?" He looked at me as if the answer was obvious, then replied, "Planning! If you gather your stuff at one time, you don't have to make so many trips. Most people spend their day running back and forth to gather things. You can't work if you are not on the job. When you are on the job, do the job! One piece at a time. Pretty soon, the job is done."
So simple, yet so profound! Plan ahead! Don't wait until you need it to do it. Remember, it wasn't raining when Noah built the ark! Then do the job! Isaiah put it like this in Isaiah 28:10 "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:" What are you going to do today? What plans have you made?
