Why did we have throw rugs here and there? The old brown hard wood floors could get very cold in the winter, but they also had splinters! One wrong move in the wrong direction at the wrong place could prove to be very painful indeed! The throw rugs also provided great entertainment. For my brother, Dale, they were giant sleds that could slide across the room. For me, they were a covert place for my plastic army men to hide from the enemy. They were anything your imagination wanted them to be!
One day the throw rugs became large rocks in a river. The hardwood floor became dangerous waters infested with giant alligators. The only way to get from one side of the room to the other safely was to leap from rock to rock. One false move and the alligators would have you for lunch! Every time I landed on one of the rugs, the whole house shook! Daddy called from the kitchen, "Stop doing that or I will come in there and whoop you!" In just one more leap I would be safe across the room. The alligators would not get me. So I jumped. I had no sooner hit the floor than I heard the stomping feet of Daddy. I promise you, the alligators would have never hurt me as badly as that "whooping" did!
We humans can come up with some fanciful ideas about things. Let's decide to listen to God - He's the real thing. I should have listened to the advice of Jeremiah in Jeremiah 7:24 "But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward"
