Debra and I have been to the Smokey Mountains a few times. We especially love to visit Cades Cove. On one trip the traffic began to stop. People pulled over to the side of the road and got out of their cars. Everyone's attention was focused on a tree in the middle of a field. What was up there? We stopped too!
There were four black bears perched in the tree! Everyone was taking pictures. People were gathered around the base of the tree to get a better look. The park ranger noticed the commotion. She stopped. She got our attention. Then she said, "Hey, you need to move on. These are BEARS! If they get excited or agitated they will come down from there! It isn't a good idea to be close to them!" We left them alone!
In all of our excitement to see live bears, we simply ignored the fact that they were wild animals! Isn't that how we sometimes think of sin? We look at it. We get close to it. Sometimes we even get excited about it. Don't we realize that it's SIN?! It's DANGEROUS! Remember what Paul said in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; ..."! When it comes to sin ... LEAVE IT ALONE!
