Allen's Air Conditioning, Inc. was hired to replace two roof top units on a medical building in Sheffield. The crane was rented, the new units were delivered, the technicians were present, and the tools were on the job. We were ready to disconnect the old units. We had to remove the sheet metal duct covers. As soon as we touched the metal, a swarm of wasps darkened the sky! There was obviously a large nest beneath the cover. Everyone ran and screamed. When the cloud of wasps dissipated, we would cautiously touch the cover only to be ran off by another swarm!
Mr. Allen watched this entire scene for a while. He realized that the company was paying us to run around the roof! The crane was rented by the hour! The job couldn't be invoiced until it was done! There was another job promised for tomorrow! He calmly instructed everyone to disconnect the other unit. He had observed that the wasps were emerging from one particular hole. He approached the duct cover with a five gallon bucket, a screw driver, and a pair of leather gloves. He sat on the bucket, hit the cover with the screwdriver, and swatted the pests with the gloves as they came out of the hole. When their stunned bodies hit the ground beside his feet, he would simply crush them with the toe of his boot. If they stopped coming out of the hole, he would hit the cover again with the screw driver and begin the process all over. Everyone watched until all of the wasps were gone!
Mr. Allen picked up the bucket, walked over to us and said, "God gave you a bigger brain than He gave the wasps. Use it!" We didn't want to be stung by those scary insects! Though we were much bigger, those wasps were stronger than us! Why? Because our motto was: "When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!" David Allen believed that Solomon was right in Proverbs 24:5 "A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength."
